FAUX / REAL A/W 11-12

Trend setting involves colour, fabric and shape forecasting.
The faux/real trend involves textured, flexible, irridescent and woven fabrics. Colours will be metallic or neutral, ranging through grey, brown and green hues as well as others.

Fabrics used in the trend are generally used to change the shape of the body using geometric shapes or by clinging to it.

On this trend board we have used varying examples of fabrics, textured papers, colours and images all relevant to the up and coming trend.
The bunting idea allows designers and fabric buyers to interact with the fabric.

Through studying Ancient Greece in my Creative Design Practices module I have focused on the significance of the bull in Greek society and mythology.
Bull and cattle were a crucial part of society as they fed the people and were seen as powerful creatures that were close to the Gods.
The Minotaur, is said to have been half man, half bull and was born to Queen Pasiphae of Crete after she supposedly coupled with a bull.
The King of Crete later built a labyrinth that was the lair of the minotaur, the King sacrificed many of his people to appease the bull.

During my 1 week millinery elective I made this fascinator with a black felt base. Such a fun and educational week!

Who says fashion should be something that everyone would wear?
Geri Halliwell you are an inspiration <3

During a trip to Paris I sneakily took photos of iconic works in an exhibition at the Musee de La Mode et du Textiles (Museum of Fashion and Textiles). This piece is from Dior and was designed by John Galliano.
Seeing this and many more world famous garments in one place was breathtaking, even if taking photos is taboo.

This 3D experimentation is a contintuation of the Creative Approaches to Fashion module. I have used wadding to create depth, shape and texture. I loved making these little 'mushrooms' and took this technique onto the final garment.

Part of the Creative Approaches to Fashion module. This is the beginning of my experimental drawings, using oil pastel and drawing inks along with more textural materials.

I absolutely adore this, I have had a fascination with big cats and particularly tigers for as long as I can remember. I can see this being made into the most amazing fabric. Animal prints are always popular and never seem to go out of style. I vote more fabrics with the whole animal, not just a fur imitation.

Really overwhelmed by how much Georgia Jagger's teeth have taken the world by storm. Every model now seems to have a gap between their teeth. Who would have thought that the alignment of someones teeth could become a fashion statement?

Paternal muse.

2 weeks into university and the pressure is crushing me to find inspirations and ideas. How easy is it to find one area of inspiration from over a century of artistic and cultural innovation? Its no good struggling with the battle of muses going on in my head so after resorting to mindlessly looking through my phone pictures I find this gem.

When all else fails I know I can count on my dad to clear my head.
Memories of his ridiculous outfits and sometimes questionable music taste is strangely what has helped me reach a decision.
